Surf and Yoga in El Salvador

Surf vacations El Salvador

Our Surf villa in La Libertad is located in Atami. Atami is an exclusive private gated community located among the surf breaks in La Libertad area, while staying in our villa you’ll have access to the best surf breaks and all of them just 15-20 mins away from the villa, besides the villa is just 200 m from a private beach call La Leona which is an average wave, perfect for beginners looking to improve their skills.

The villa is the perfect location for couples, families or group of friends, looking for a private place only for the group. Here the group will have the exclusivity of the villa. We recommend this villa to accommodate groups of Yoga vacations and retreats, and for Surf Camps for girls only.

Safety is our main concern for our guests so each group or individual will have a local guide leading the way ensuring local knowledge and AST best practices.

Surfing

Surfing La Libertad – La Libertad area encompasses about a dozen different high quality breaks beginning at the coastal town of La Libertad (only half an hour from the airport). It contains El Salvador’s most popular surfing spots such as Punta Roca with its powerful and hollow waves.

Surfing Seasons

El Salvador surfing consists in four surfing seasons:

  • March-May: very big, consistent, and clean waves (6- 12 ft). During this period there are many days when conditions are great to surf all day long.
  • June-October: big surf (6- 12 ft) originating from the South Pacific’s swells.
  • November-December are more inconsistent, but when the waves arrive they are simply perfect (4- 6 ft). The weather is cooler than normal (78-degree). Offshore winds allow for perfect surfing conditions all day long.
  • January-February are the months of the year that surf becomes very inconsistent and the waves are small (2- 4 ft), however the climate is perfect with cool evenings and bright sunny days.

The Spots

Punta Roca. Punta Roca (aka "La Punta," or, to traveling Americans, "The Point") is a world-class wave that draws comparisons to J-Bay, Noosa, and other standout right-hand, rock-bottom pointbreaks. The wave runs for more than a quarter-mile at an even pace with several barrel sections on offer. One quality wave at The Point, and your trip just paid for itself.

La Paz. La Paz is the inside section of Punta Roca. La Paz is the easier, softer side of the wave and tends to draw surfers not quite ready for the more serious waves a couple hundred yards north. Though it's subdued, it's still an excellent wave and a great place to surf if you aren't into a long march or a road trip.

Conchalio. Playa Conchalio is a mile-long stretch of beachbreaks just west of Punta Roca that hosts a speedy, thumping, barreling wave that shines during the dry season, when offshore winds really open the barrels up and give you hope of emerging unscathed. Conchalio is often surfed when it's flat everywhere else, because even at two feet or less it's still completely surfable.

Sunzal. Extremely consistent quasi-world class rock-bottom right point. Tends to be a favorite of San Salvadoran weekend warriors, so with a bit of tact and skill you can have your pick of waves even when it's crowded. On a solid swell it can hold up to 10 feet plus, peeling evenly along the rocks.

Zonte: This is a right hand point break with beautiful settings of the headlands, this is one of the best spots because of it breaks well in any swell direction, it’s divided in 2 sections the point that is lined up take off, and next right Zonte point is “The Beachbreak” it’s not exactly a beachbreak but break like one because the mixed sandy and rocky bottom permit that wave break faster than a normal pointbreak.

KM 59: right point. It is in a gated community of beach houses but the break is a rock bottom that has good hollow waves. Best at mid-incoming tide.

Mizata. Right and left point break which can break very good on 3-5ft swells. This is another of the desolated surf spots. This break offer right and left waves. This spot consist in two sections which are a right hand pointbreak and A frame beachbreak.

There other waves not mentioned, since we know to take our guests to some uncrowded waves is a plus in a surf trip. AST guides will take you to some secret waves in the area, these waves work on special conditions.
